The Wayfinder unit plan is the first in our new format with cross-curriculum content. The plan will guide you through each step of teaching the storytelling way. Follow a literary pathway with this Polynesian navigation story, developing your learners' oral fluency in telling, changing, and extending this narrative. Included are; core book links, Aotearoa Histories curriculum links and more. The plan offers suggestions to enrich, 'loiter and explore' within this narrative context, to know deeply about the characters, to understand the problems that matter, and to extend the learners' thinking. There are suggestions for daily shared writing, where the purpose of written communication and its effect on the reader are defined. A full copy of The Wayfinder text for telling is included along with an extended/up-levelled text for shared/guided reading. This unit plan has been developed for Year 4 and above.
